Be right back.
Stepped out to refill the kettle. The site will be along shortly — usually no more than twenty minutes once the coffee is ready and we have rebooted the misbehaving node.
"It always takes longer than you think, even when you take into account that it always takes longer than you think." — pinned on the dev wall since 2014.
What we are up to
- Rolling the API node back one minor version — turns out the patch was chattier than expected and started fanning requests at 4x.
- Replaying a dozen or so queued jobs from the cold buffer (
queue.cold) once the new build comes up clean. - Letting the CDN cache thaw out so the front page loads quickly when we are back online for real.
- Sipping coffee, watching the deployment dashboard scroll by, occasionally muttering at the screen.
- Updating the changelog so tomorrow's standup is half-written before it starts.
How to reach a human
If you absolutely must, the kitchen extension is taped to the office door. Otherwise, hit refresh in a bit — the site will pick up on its own once the kettle whistles, which should be soon. Promise.
